Dream – why dream?
We all have dreams; we all need dreams. They help to give us hope and purpose. Expressing those dreams, giving them form, colour, content brings them to birth, to fulfilment, to life. Sharing in fulfilling a dream draws us together, builds community, grows us into one, a oneness that is greater than a mere total of who we are.
God had a dream – a dream of a universe, of human beings who could love and grow, could themselves dream, create and live, live their dreams. Live God’s dream of creativity, of community, of loving and living- of dancing to the beat of God’s heart.
Whenever the dream gets damaged, life may become the dance of the cross, of suffering, even death and restoration, re-creation, darkness and hope. It’s a dance that we cannot dance alone, need not dance alone, a dance transformed by Jesus Christ, Through Him the Holy Spirit of water and cleansing, of fire and resurrection, of the dove of peace dances within, bringing the call of God’s hospitality to us wherever we may be, his healing and His hope. Life is to burst forth again, renewed, and eventually we will burst forth beyond time, beyond life into the eternal love of God.
The Father creates through the Word and breathes His Spirit into human beings. We are created in His image, and therefore are to be creative, communicative and revealing the abundance of life.
Passages of particular significance have been 2 Chronicles 7.11-16, the vision of God’s eyes and heart in His temple; his willingness to reach out to welcome, heal, and give hope. The vision of Isaiah in Isaiah 6.1-6 challenged us to be outward-looking, while Acts 2.1-12 brought that sense of the variety of language and communication media and the need to express what we believe God is doing in a variety of ways which people will understand. The passage in Revelation 22.1-5 led us into creativity, bringing with it the power of hope. It is hope above all which we want to help support and create in the modern world, hope that is the light of Christ, love made visible.
